Imperial Valley Food Bank is proud to announce its selection as a 2021 California Nonprofit of the Year by Sen. Ben Hueso. The Food Bank Board of Directors and Staff celebrated the announcement June 23 in the Imperial facility as part of California's Nonprofit Day. The Senator's office presented the Food Bank with its recognition and Board and Staff shared a lunch afterward.
Imperial Valley Food Bank served more people and distributed more food in 2020 than in its 30-year history. Its staff of 14 distributed 8 million pounds of food and served up to 29,000 residents monthly in all corners of Imperial Valley.
"We are honored to be named 2021 Nonprofit of the Year by Sen. Ben Hueso and I could not be more proud of our Staff and Leadership, " said IVFB Executive Director Sara Griffen. "Our staff continued their work though the pandemic despite risks to themselves and their families because of the increasing need throughout Imperial Valley."
IVFB is one of more than 100 nonprofits that will be honored by their state senators and assembly members for their tremendous contributions to the communities they serve. IVFB was also named Nonprofit of the Year in 2016 by Assembly member Eduardo Garcia.
"The pandemic and shelter-in-place orders of the last year and a half have put nonprofits - usually in plain sight - in the spotlight," explains Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits). "California Nonprofit of the Year is an opportunity for our elected officials to celebrate the good work they see nonprofits doing in their districts, and for everyone to appreciate the collective impacts of nonprofits in our communities."
